Day 16 - In His Word - LITTLE

Today is Day 16 of the "write31days" challenge; and I am linking up with Kate Motaung and the Five Minute Friday group for this year's "free writes".

Check out all of my posts in the "In His Word" 31 Days series here.

The word for today is Little ...

Jesus welcomed the little children; in fact, he chastised the disciples for wanting to turn them away!

"Then the little children were being brought to him in order that he may lay his hands on them and pray.  The disciples spoke sternly to those who brought them; but Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.'  And he laid his hands on them and went on his way."  Matt. 19:13 - 15

Nora Arsenian Carmi, in a Bible study from "Just Women Magazine", summarizes this way:  "In the gospel accounts of Jesus welcoming the little children, He models hospitality towards the most vulnerable and gives us a glimpse into the nature of the kingdom of God."

The gospel of Luke says it this way:  "People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it.  But Jesus called for them and said 'Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.  Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.' "  Luke 18:15-17

Jesus welcomed the little children to Him; He set them on his lap and blessed them...He did not turn them away because they were "little".

What we can understand from this passage is that the kingdom of God "is closely connected to innocence, trust, and the simplicity and confidence of children"  - Nora Arsenian Carmi

As we open our minds and our hearts to Jesus, just as these little children did, we can get a more clear understanding of His kingdom.  Only then will we have the belief and heart to enter into the kingdom...
